Good Shepherd Farm Puppy Buyer Questionnaire

The purpose of this questionnaire is to help me understand what you are looking for in a pup and ensure that you get the kind of dog that is right for your situation.  There are no "right" or "wrong" answers.  The more detail you can provide, the better.  Feel free to include additional information you think would be helpful.       


*What led you to the English Shepherd breed and/or Good Shepherd Farm?


*Have you owned an ES before?  What about other breeds of dogs?


*What are your plans for this pup? (companion, farmwork, competitive events etc...)

*If a farmdog, what duties might the pup be expected to have?  
   -Herding work? (how much and of what type?) 
   -Guardian duties?
   -Hunting or pest eradication?

*Do you need a dog with a lot of drive and energy?  Or are you looking for a laid back mellow dog?  

*How much social interaction will the pup experience in its life with you?  Would you attend many public events with your dog, have a lot of visitors in the home, live in a neighborhood vs the country etc...

*Do you work outside the home?  How much time will the pup be by himself and where would he be kept? 


*Where would the pup spend the majority of its time?  (house, outside - yard, pen etc....).  Where will he sleep?  


*Think about the tone of your home.  Is it calm and quiet?  Active and noisy?  You'd want a pup that would adapt and fit in with your style of living.


*Do you have a preference in terms of sex and/or color?  How set are you in these preferences?  note - I place pups first based on temperament/personality but if all things are equal, sex and color will be considered.


*Do you plan to spay/neuter this pup or are you considering breeding? 


*Do you like a challenge or do you like a dog that responds easily to your commands?  A stronger more dominant pup may be more of a challenge than one that is in the middle to low end of the pack order.   


*How experienced a dog trainer are you?  Would you be attending classes with your pup?  


*Are there children in the home (or frequent child visitors)?  If so what ages?


*What do the other people in the home think of getting an English Shepherd pup?


*Do you currently have other dogs, pets, livestock?  Please describe briefly.
